MHPOD Pilot

An expression of interest (EOI) for public mental health services to participate as a pilot site for MHPOD was released in November 2009. The aims of the pilot process are to identify enablers and barriers to the successful implementation of MHPOD; support services to incorporate MHPOD in professional development programs; and to evaluate MHPOD’s effectiveness as a professional development tool.

Services that are interested in participating need to complete and submit an EOI by 7 December 2009.

Services need a commitment to professional development, the capacity to provide staff to use MHPOD, and sufficient hardware, software and internet access for MHPOD to operate. The EOI is available here and EOI template is here. Queries regarding the EOI can be directed to your jurisdictional contact officer on the contacts page.

Project update

About three-quarters of the topics that will comprise MHPOD have been developed to a near-final stage. Topics currently being worked on include gender sensitive practice, dual diagnosis practice, mental health histories and mental state examination.

The project is on track for the pilot to commence in the second quarter 2010. The pilot will involve two services in the five larger states (one metropolitan and one rural or remote) and one service in the smaller jurisdictions.

The pilot is an important step in taking MHPOD into mental health services nationally.
